One God in The Holy Bible

From the Old Testament to the New Testament the holy scripture consistently speaks of one singular, indivisible God.

One God in The Old Testament

God testifies of himself as being one by using words such as “There is none else, none else beside me, there is no God beside me” to make it very clear to the reader that he is the only true God and outside of him there is none else.Isaiah 44:6,8: – “Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God”, “…ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any”Isaiah 45:5-6: – I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the Lord, and there is none else.”

  • Isaiah 45:21-22: – “Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? Who hath told it from that time? Have not I the Lord? And there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me. Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else
  • Isaiah 46:9- “Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me.
  • Isaiah 43:10-11: – “Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no savior.”
  • Deuteronomy 32:39 “See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.”

God’s people, Israel, Understood and knew him as only one indivisible God

God wanted his people to know and understand very clearly that he is only one God

  • Deuteronomy 6:4Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.”

God didn’t want his people to forget that he was the only one God; therefore he commanded them to post these words on their walls and gates, to bind them as a sign upon their heads and to be frontlets between their eyes. He also commanded that they teach their children very diligently and that they speak of Deut 6:4 when they sit in their houses, when they walk on the way, when they sleep and when they wake up.

Therefore, Israel always remembered that their God was One even after many generations from the day God appeared to them in Mount Sinai:

  • 2 Samuel 7:22: – “Wherefore thou art great, O Lord God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.”
  • Malachi 2:10: – Have we not all one father? Hath not one God created us? Why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?”
  • Nehemiah 9:6: – Thou, even thou, art Lord alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all, and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.”
  • Isaiah 37:16: – O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, that dwells between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth.”

One God in The New Testament

The Same God that spoke in the Old Testament saying that there will be no God formed before or after him remained the same singular God in the New Testament.

  • Mark 12; 28-29,32: – “And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, which is the first commandment of all? And Jesus answered him, the first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:” “And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:”

The Apostles believed, worshipped and preached the same singular God who revealed Himself in Mount Sinai to Israel and now has revealed himself to them as Jesus Christ, God manifested in the flesh.

  • Ephesian 4:4-6: – “There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”
  • Galatians 3:20: – “Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.”
  • James 2:19: –Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.”
  • 1 Timothy 2:5For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;”
  • 1 Corinthians 8:4-6: – “As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world and that there is none other God but one. But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.”

There is only one Throne in Heaven

  • Isaiah 6:1: – “In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.”
  • Revelation 4:1-2: – “After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter. And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.”
  • Revelation 4:10-11: – “The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”

There is only one God coming to Reign on the Earth

  • Zechariah 14:9: – “And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one.”

Questions for Trinitarians

  • Did you know that the words God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, Triune God, God in three Persons and Trinity are not mentioned in the Bible? Then how can you believe in something that is not written in the Bible?
  • Did you know that there is only one throne in Heaven and One God sitting upon it (Revelation 4:1-2)? If you then believe that there are three distinct persons in God (Trinity): God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, which one of these is sitting on the Throne? And if only one can sit on the throne where are the other two going to sit?
  • Did you know that there is only One God with one name coming to reign on the earth (Zechariah 14-9)? If you then believe that there are three distinct persons in God (Trinity): God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, which one is going to reign? And if only one will reign, what about the other two?
